Getting Cultural
The tour de Melbourne continues into the weekend with stops in Fitzroy, Southbank, and the Docklands.
Fitzroy
It was the first really hot day, so what do we do? Go exploring outside of course! Pip, Ann-Marie, and I took a tram up to Brunswick St in Fitzroy. This neighborhood is a fairly hippie area with vegetables and vintage shops. And that's exactly what we did. For lunch we stopped at this cool vegetarian restaurant and tried nachos, tagine, a quinoa burger, and zoodle pad thai- some of it completely vegan, all absolutely delicious.
Afterward, we walked around, popping into vintage, coffee, and art shops. Just like the CBD, all the walls were covered in graffiti street art.
Southbank
On our way to an art market, we stumbled into the best possible thing we could have: a Thai Festival!! There were stalls making candy, fruit art, and flower lanyards, dancers, drummers and a huge tribute to the late king. We wandered a little further to find food on food on delicious food. We got pad thai, mango sticky rice, and prawn spring rolls. Mmmmm.
Eventually made it to the art market, but the thai fest made up for its mediocrity. We kept walking along the river and found ourselves in the middle of yet another festival- the last day of the Chinese New Year. Food stalls and decor everywhere.
Docklands
The main CBD has free tram rides, so we jumped on a cute little trolley and rode out to the Melbourne harbor. The weather was on the verge of a downpour, but it was cool to see a different part of the city.
